Set of 2 Japanese Lacquerware MAKIE Soup Bowl OWAN / Gavel
These bowls feature beautiful painted gavel with MAKIE technique elaborately.
It seems that these bowls were made early SHOWA period from TAISHO period.
The age of the TAISHO era is 1926 from 1912. The age of the SHOWA era is 1989 from 1926.
These bowls are very popular among the Japanese when we have Japanese soup.
The method of decorating lacquer ware is chiefly three which are MAKIE, CHINKIN and RADEN.
MAKIE:
It is assumed a Japanese original technique for lacquer ware that there is no example in foreign countries.
MAKI
means sowing and
E
means picture.
MAKIE is a technique for established the metallic powders such as gold and silver etc. to the surface of the lacquer ware.
The picture, the pattern, and the character, etc. are painted on the surface of the lacquer ware with the lacquer.
The powders are sowed there before the lacquer dries.
