In fluorescence or Raman measurements, the actual signal is extremely weak in comparison to the excitation light. Accordingly, the PMT sensitivity must be set very high for the signal. Under such conditions, even a small portion of excitation beam enters the detection system will overwhelm
or
even
saturate
the PMT. A mechanical shutter suffers from low speed and is impractical. Gated PMT is the only solution. Here is a gated D-type PMT socket assembly designed to fulfil such an application. It is the key component for time-domain measurements such as lanthanide-sensitized luminescence. Please see the specification sheet for details. This unit is brand new.
